Governance

The Centre is administered by Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence Limited, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

The company is governed by a Board of Directors, managed by the CEO and its investment strategy is guided by a Research Advisory Committee which comprises delegates from distinguished water industry entities that represent a collaboration of commercial and research interests.

Host Institution

Seqwater, a State of Queensland Statutory Authority and the provider of safe and secure, climate-resilient water sources to South East Queensland, currently hosts this national research Centre. As a leader in the use of world-class advanced water treatment facilities, Seqwater is well placed to help establish and host the Centre of Excellence.


Management Team

Dr. O’Donohue is a researcher with a strong background in developing science policy partnerships for urban and environmental water.  Prior to joining the Centre, he was the Director of Environmental Water Policy for the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts in Canberra where he managed policy development and implementation for environmental water recovered as a result of the Commonwealth Government’s $3.1 billion investment through Water for the Future.

Sarah Haydon – Manager Research & Commercialisation

Sarah brings with her more than 20 years research and technical experience in a range of industries in the UK, New Zealand and Australia having worked in a number of scientific and key business development roles. These include positions at Beckman Coulter, the University of Auckland and International Paper. Most recently, Sarah was Business Development Manager at CSIRO’s Food and Nutritional Sciences.
 



The host company, Seqwater, provides inkind administrative and operational support to the Centre through its commercial, legal, accounting, communication and community engagement staff, and through the provision of office space and equipment.

Board

Leith Boully
Leith was appointed Chair of the Board after the merger between original host WaterSecure and Seqwater on 1 July 2011. Leith has 20 years experience at local, state and national levels in natural resource management (particularly water).

Leith is a Director of Seqwater, South East Queensland Water Corporation Pty Ltd , South East Queensland (Gold Coast) Desalination Company Pty Ltd, Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd and Chairman of the Wide Bay Water Corporation, Healthy Waterways Ltd, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Water Quality and Coastal Development Reef Advisory Committee, Brisbane Riverprize National Panel, Glennie School Council and Boully Pastoral Co Pty Ltd.

She is also a Board Member of Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited and Queensland State Rural Leasehold Land Ministerial Advisory Council. Leith is an Adjunct Professor, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Queensland and was a founding member of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists.


David McDougall

David was appointed as a Member of the Board when the Centre was established in 2009. David has more than 30 years experience in project and structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, valuations, capital raising and providing strategic advice to Governments and corporations. David's work as a Partner of KPMG and a Director of a major Australian investment bank, has assisted in skilling him in the areas of domestic and international corporate finance, strategy and organisational structuring.

With a Masters of Business Administration, David has experience across a range of industries including natural resources, transport, utilities, telecommunications, property, tourism and leisure. David’s significant experience in the natural resources sector includes work for SA Water, CS Energy, Tarong Energy, and Singapore Power.

He is a Director of Seqwater, South East Queensland Water Corporation Pty Ltd , South East Queensland (Gold Coast) Desalination Company Pty Ltd, Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd, Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence Ltd. 


Scott Standen
Scott was appointed as a Member of the Board on 1 July 2011, following the merger of Watersecure and Seqwater. Scott is a corporate lawyer of over 20 years experience.  

Scott is a Director of Seqwater, South East Queensland Water Corporation Pty Ltd , South East Queensland (Gold Coast) Desalination Company Pty Ltd and Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd.  He is a director of GRT Lawyers, a specialist corporate legal practice in the resources and technology industries.  He practises exclusively in corporate law, including capital markets, mergers & acquisitions and corporate governance.


Leeanne Kay Bond

Appointed as a member of the Board after original host WaterSecure merged with Seqwater on 1 July 2011, Leeanne is a chemical engineer with experience in business management, projects, design and proposals for a number of international engineering and project management organisations on projects across the hydrocarbons, minerals processing, infrastructure, water and power industry sectors. She consults to industry through her company Breakthrough Energy Pty Ltd.

Leeanne is currently a Director of Seqwater, South East Queensland Water Corporation Pty Ltd , South East Queensland (Gold Coast) Desalination Company Pty Ltd, Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd and Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd. She has previously served as a Director of Tarong Energy Corporation Limited, as Chairperson of the Brisbane Water Advisory Board for the Brisbane City Council, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Professional Engineers in Queensland and President of Engineers Australia (Queensland Division).
